BOULDER - Deborah Jin, a University of Colorado at Boulder professor and National Institute of Standards and Technology fellow received the Sigma Xi William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement award.
The Procter Prize is awarded "to an outstanding scientist or engineer who is known for effective communication of complex ideas," according to Houston-based Sigma Xi, an international honor society for research scientists and engineers.
Jin, a JILA fellow, will receive the $10,000 monetary award for her technical innovations with ultra-cold atomic gases that helped advance ultra-cold physics research and develop superconductors that work at room temperature. Those conductors could help develop faster computers. Jin receives $5,000 of the award, and Jin will award the remaining $5,000 to a researcher of her choice.
Jin will receive the award at the organization's annual meeting Nov. 12-15 in Houston.
