BOULDER - The Colorado Business Economic Outlook, sponsored by the Business Research Division at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder and BBVA Compass, will be held Monday, Dec. 7, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1750 Welton St. in Denver. The event is free and no R.S.V.P. is necessary.
Now in its 45th year, the Colorado Business Economic Outlook is the premier project of the Business Research Division: the annual forecast of the state's economy includes snapshots from specific counties and regions around the state, updates on international trade, population, labor force, and personal income growth, as well as a general outlook on the national economy.
More than 100 members in the business community provide input by both region and sector, which gives added depth and value to the forecast. Considering the recent national and Colorado economic volatility, the 2010 forecast has relevance not just to business people but to a broad and diverse audience as well.
"For example, in the last 15 months, 125,000 jobs were lost in the state of Colorado," said Gary Horvath, managing director of the Business Research Division at the Leeds School of Business. "The challenge for the state is that this decline has touched all industries except for government and health care. Virtually no one escaped from this downturn."
Attendees to the event will receive a copy of the 2010 Colorado Business Economic Outlook report, hear economists Richard Wobbekind and Nathaniel Karp, and have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions on: Heroes Wanted: Fixing the Mess in State and Local Government Budgets; What Do Capital Markets Have in Store for Real Estate?;The Future of Uranium, Renewables; and Coal - Impacts on Colorado's Economy.
