BOULDER - The Boulder Chamber, city of Boulder, Downtown Boulder, Twenty Ninth Street, Boulder County Independent Business Alliance and University Hill have launched
www.buyintoboulder.com, a new website for the Buy into Boulder campaign.
The city of Boulder started the Buy into Boulder campaign during the November 2009 holiday season to encourage citizens to keep their dollars in the Boulder community rather than making online purchases or shopping outside Boulder. The website will serve as a hub of information with store listings, discounts, event calendars and business articles.
Liz Hanson, economic vitality coordinator at the city of Boulder, said the city's 3.41 percent sales taxes will make up approximately 32 percent of Boulder's 2010 budget. Sales tax collections have been on the decline, and tax revenues are not keeping pace with the cost of services provided.
"If you live, work or play in Boulder, buying here not only supports our community but the programs and services it provides and helps our town maintain a sustainable and enhanced quality of life," Hanson said. "We're encouraging community members to make the conscious decision to support their community by keeping their dollars here."
