BOULDER - A group of local tennis pros have purchased a property just east of Boulder with plans to build a new tennis club, pool and spa.

Colorado Tennis Facilities LLC, headed by Kendall and Donna Chitambar and Duke Paluch, purchased the 10-acre property in unincorporated Boulder County at 6400 Arapahoe Ave. for $3.9 million, according to Boulder County public records. BMC West Corp., an Idaho-based building material supplier, sold the property.

Brit Banks and Becky Gamble with Dean Callan & Co. helped broker the real estate deal.

Plans include a 24-court (10 indoor, 14 outdoor) facility with a full-service day spa, fitness center, pool, bistro and day care.

"Our goal is to create a program that has something for everyone, in a year-round setting where we can truly help to inspire players who want to achieved their goals," Chitambar said on his Web site.

Reached on his cell phone, he said further details would be available later next week, as he was returning to Boulder from vacation.

Chitambar, his wife, Donna, and his daughter Lily had been splitting their residency in Boulder and Weston, Conn., where the family ran Weston Field Club Tennis. They decided to live in Boulder full time, he said.

Chitambar describes himself as a late starter to high-level competitive tennis. "But I was able with the help of some world-class coaches - Nandor Veres, Billy Stearns and Fritz Nau - to improve my level enough to complete for three yeas on the ITF (International Tennis Federation) professional satellite circuit."

Duke Paluch has been the director of tennis at Millennium Harvest House Tennis in Boulder for the past 20 years.
