LONGMONT - Longmont medical facilities are introducing new treatment options for patients.

Longmont Clinic is offering a new procedure to help patients who experience chronic sinus infections, the clinic recently announced.

The new procedure, called balloon sinuplasty, uses a catheter, inserted through a nostril, to place a balloon in the blocked sinus passageway. The balloon is then inflated to restructure the area allowing the sinus to drain and function properly.

Typically, patients who experience chronic sinus infections either receive antibiotics, nasal steroids or undergo surgery. Medication doesn't work for everyone, and traditional surgery involves bone and tissue removal, according to a clinic press release.

Balloon sinuplasty, performed by Longmont Clinic's Dr. Raj TerKonda, is less invasive than traditional surgery.

Longmont United Hospital will also begin offering a therapeutic program, starting in November, that helps elderly adults and people with chronic conditions.

The Lebed method uses graceful movements, music, peer reinforcement and education to address mind, body and spirit. It's meant to reduce pain and depression, and increase energy and balance.

It's designed to help elderly adults and people with cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and any other chronic condition.
