Boulder-based Compass Natural LLC, an integrated marketing, communications, public relations and business development agency serving companies in the lifestyles of health and sustainability market, engaged Vicki Scharnhorst of 40th Parallel Consulting as a marketing consultant. Scharnhorst will serve as account manager for a number of Boulder and nationally based businesses including Aspen-based organic raw food maker Starbars; Wisconsin-based Sunshine Burger; Boulder-based Best Organics Inc., a provider of organic and eco-friendly gift baskets; and Pennsylvania-based organic certification and production specialists Agrisystems International.
Boulder-based Catapult PR-IR, a strategic public relations firm for B-to-B high-tech markets, Jeremy Douglas to account coordinator. Douglas, who joined Catapult in June 2010, previously served as public relations assistant for the firm. Since joining Catapult, Douglas has expanded his role and responsibilities from research and administrative duties to now media relations, writing and client relations.
EDUCATION
The Colorado Community College System appointed Shelley Thompson as executive director for the CCCS Foundation. Thompson currently serves as the director of Donor Relations and Major Gifts for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
HIGH TECH
Boulder-based FreeWave Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of spread spectrum and licensed radios, hired Greg Veintimilla as chief technology officer and vice president of engineering. Veintimilla has more than 25 years of experience in radio frequency. He holds six U.S. patents.
Boulder-based website development firm Boco Web Solutions hired Teri Lynn Wilkins as senior sales account executive. She has 15 years of sales and business development experience, in addition to running her own company for 10 years.
Boulder-based InDevR Inc., a biotech firm, appointed Michael Artinger as vice president of commercial operations and Craig Hoechstetter as director of sales and customer support. Artinger will oversee product development, manufacturing, marketing, sales, customer support and partnering. Hoechstetter is responsible for all sales-related activities.
Boulder-based AlsoEnergy Inc, a supplier of energy monitoring and financial management software systems, hired Kevin Suhr as a field engineer. Suhr will lead field service operations to accommodate the company’s rapid expansion to multiple countries. Previously, Suhr was lead troubleshooting, data monitoring and service technician at Bella Energy in Louisville.
HOSPITALITY, RECREATION
Andy Hamblen, vice president and general manager of Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk, was elected president of the Colorado Gaming Association at the organization’s general membership meeting last month. Hamblen replaces Michael Smith, chief executive officer of Colorado Casino Resorts Inc., who lead the CGA for two years.

Berg Hill Greenleaf & Ruscitti LLP announced that attorney Michael Arnold has rejoined the firm as an associate and Lauren Roberts has joined the firm as an associate. Arnold practices general litigation, including commercial and construction disputes as well as municipal matters and eminent domain proceedings. His experience in construction litigation has involved representing owners, general contractors, and subcontractors. Roberts will focus her practice on trademarks and litigation.
