ARTS : Judy Bigger has been named executive director of the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont. An event and meeting planner, Bigger also is vice president of Longmont Area Democrats and was executive director of Boulder Tomorrow from 2006 to 2011.

BANKING, FINANCE : Denver-based First Western Trust Bank, with operations in Boulder, appointed Renata Dolz as vice president - director of marketing. A marketing professional who has worked on accounts for Pepsi and Keebler, Dolz will spearhead the development of marketing and public relations strategies, and help guide First Western's community involvement. Most recently, Dolz was a senior consultant with Cache Creek Consulting, where she contributed to several projects including First Western's rebranding effort and marketing plan.

EDUCATION : Steve Thweatt, associate vice president for planning, design and construction at Emory University in Atlanta, has been named executive director of facilities management at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Thweatt, was campus architect and director of planning, design and construction at CU-Boulder from 1994 to 2007. His new CU appointment is effective Aug. 1.

Todd Saliman, former chief budget officer for the state of Colorado, on July 9 became the new vice president for budget and finance and chief financial officer for the University of Colorado system. Saliman, a Boulder resident, will earn an annual salary of $285,000 and will oversee a CU system budget of $2.9 billion. Named to the position in late June by CU president Bruce Benson, Saliman replaces Kelly Fox, who becomes senior vice chancellor for budget and finance and chief financial officer for CU-Boulder.

ENGINEERING : Engineering firm JVA Inc. hired Brandon K. Parker as a design engineer in its structural department, and he will work in the firm's office in Boulder. Parker has a civil engineering degree from Louisiana Tech University and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado. He has experience in the analysis of telecommunication towers, design of tower modifications and use of composite products. JVA is a structural, civil and environmental consulting engineering firm with offices in Boulder, Winter Park and Fort Collins.

GOVERNMENT : Kathleen Bracke has been named manager of the city of Boulder's GO Boulder transportation program, resigning as transportation planning director for the city of Fort Collins. She had worked in Fort Collins city government since 1994.

HEALTH CARE : Adam Olson joined Front Range Orthopedics & Spine as a physician's assistant. Front Range has offices in Longmont, Lafayette and Estes Park. Olson is a 2008 graduate from Colorado State University and completed his master's degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Saint Francis in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was awarded the university's Outstanding Physician Assistant Student Award.

LAW : The National Institute for Trial Advocacy in Boulder named Terre Rushton associate executive director for programs. Rushton has served as NITA's director of custom programs since 2005. She has taught more than 200 programs since 1981. She graduated from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and began her career as clerk for Judge Joseph Quinn. She has also worked at the Colorado Attorney General's Office and was a partner at Kelly/Haglund/Garnsey & Kahn in Denver.
