BOULDER - Shoe-footbed manufacturer Footbalance North America plans to move its headquarters to Boulder in August from San Diego, the company announced Monday.

Footbalance plans to move to an office at 1412 Pearl St., Suite 200, in Boulder, because of the city's reputation as a hub for the outdoor and footwear industries, Matt Kaplan, president and chief executive officer of the company, said in a press statement. Locating the headquarters in Boulder also will help the company with its goals for growth, athlete testing and customer feedback, Kaplan said.

"We will be in a location where people live and breathe a healthy, balanced and active lifestyle," Kaplan said. "Some of the best playgrounds for testing will be steps away from our front door."

Five employees are expected to work in the Boulder office, Six other employees will maintain the company's warehousing, distribution and logistics in the San Diego, according to the press statement.

Footbalance's custom-molded footbeds sell for $79.99, the company said. The company was started by a Finnish physiotherapist who specializes in podiatric medicine. Footbalance North America is a division of Footbalance System Ltd. in Helsinki, Finland.
