BROOMFIELD - Telecommunications company Level 3 Communications Inc. will deliver live video feeds of both the Democratic and Republican national conventions for MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed between Broomfield-based Level 3 (NYSE: LVLT) and MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, which produces the "PBS NewsHour." Level 3 will set up broadcast services in Washington and at the convention venues - Tampa, Florida, for the Republican National Convention, and Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Democratic National Convention.

In addition to live coverage on television, Level 3 also will provide a 24-hour feed online, according to a press statement. Services will be offered through Level 3's branded Vyvx products, which will offer encoding, decoding, transmission and local access, according to the statement.

The Republican National Convention is scheduled from Monday, Aug. 27, to Thursday, Aug. 30. The Democratic National Convention is to be held from Monday, Sept. 3, to Thursday, Sept. 6.

PBS NewsHour airs weeknights on more than 300 local Public Broadcasting Service stations. MacNeil/Lehrer Productions also produced complete broadcast coverage of the 2008 Democratic and Republican national conventions for PBS.

Level 3 recently reported revenue of $1.59 billion in the second quarter. The company acquired rival Global Crossing Ltd. for $3 billion last year.
