BOULDER – High-tech ski goggles and sunglasses company Zeal Optics Inc. has a new president: John Sanchez.

Sanchez comes to Boulder-based Zeal Optics from parent company Maui Jim Inc., a sunglasses maker based in Peoria, Illinois. His previous role at Maui Jim was as vice president of product development, according to a company press statement.

Zeal’s signature products are ski goggles that have GPS information displayed inside the lenses, as well as goggles with built-in video and photo features.

“I am so excited about the opportunity to lead Zeal into this new era,” Sanchez said in the press statement. “There is so much potential within both the optical and outdoor markets. Zeal has a great new platform from which to launch.”

Zeal Optics’ headquarters has 13 employees who work on marketing, sales and design. Another four Zeal employees work at the Peoria location.

Zeal sunglass frames are made from Z-Resin, a plant-based resin which is made from castor bean oil instead of crude oil. Maui Jim is privately held and does not release revenue figures.
