BOULDER - The Foundry Group said Friday it had raised a third fund - Foundry Venture Capital 2012 LP - with $225 million from investors.

The venture capital firm will use the fund to continue to invest in software and information technology startup companies, according to a blog post from Foundry Group principals Brad Feld, Seth Levine, Ryan McIntyre and Jason Mendelson.

The firm also makes "thematic" investments in companies working on things such as human-computer interaction, email and digital life, among other things, according to a company blog post.

Feld also is a co-founder of TechStars, a mentor-driven startup company accelerator. The business mentor group has programs in Boulder, New York, Boston, Seattle and San Antonio. Growing Boulder companies such as SendGrid Inc. and Orbotix Inc. are TechStars graduates. SendGrid makes email cloud infrastructure while Orbotix makes the Sphero, a robotic ball.
