Earth Balance recalls almond butter product
Niwot-based Earth Balance is a division of GFA Brands Inc. in Paramus, New Jersey. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the Earth Balance Almond Butter products, the company said in a press statement.
The company said it is recalling Earth Balance Almond Butter made by Sunland Inc., in Portales, New Mexico, from May through September 2012. The 16-ounce product in a plastic jar has a "best by" date from May to September 2013 stamped on the top of a green cap.
From June 11 through Sept. 2, 29 people in 18 states reported getting salmonella illnesses, according to the company press statement. Colorado was not one of the states. Earth Balance products are sold at retail stores throughout the nation.
No Earth Balance peanut butter products are affected by the recall, the company said in the press statement.
Customers who purchased the product can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, the company said. Customers with questions can call the company at 201-421-3970 or visit its website at www.EarthBalanceNatural.com.
