BOULDER - The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations to receive funding.

A local board will determine how the funds are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The board will recommend which agencies will receive funds.

The board, chaired by Foothills United Way, includes representatives of local government, local faith communities, the American Red Cross, the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless and Community Food Share.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and have a voluntary board.

Funds will be awarded for the following purposes: Food, in the form of served meals or groceries; lodging in a mass shelter or hotel; one month's rent or mortgage payment; or one month's utility bill.

To apply, contact Kelli Kanemoto, EFSP's local board chairwoman, at Foothills United Way, 303-444-4013 or kkanemoto@unitedwayfoothills.org. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17.
