Boulder B-cycle opened its 22nd B-station near the Hop bus stops at the north end of the Twenty Ninth Street shopping district.
Siva Therapeutics Inc. will move into new laboratory space at 5541 Central Ave. in Boulder to continue its cancer research projects after receiving an undisclosed new angel investment. Boulder-based Siva also will hire a new bioengineer, said Len Pagliaro, chief executive of the four-person company. The amount of the investment and the name of the investor were not disclosed. Siva’s nanorod research involves minuscule rods that can be inserted into a cancer patient’s body and heated to kill tumors.
Broomfield-based Ball Corp. announced that its joint-venture metal beverage can plant in Alagoinhas, Brazil, which began production earlier this year, will start up a second production line in the second half of 2013. The Alagoinhas plant, located in the state of Bahia, makes aluminum cans for beer and other beverages. It is part of Latapack-Ball Embalagens Ltda., which also operates metal beverage packaging plants in Tres Rios, Jacarei and Salvador, Brazil.
Boulder-based MobileDay Inc. raised $1.03 million in seed money and added features to its app for smartphones. The app, which works on iOS and Google Android platforms, helps users schedule and dial in to conference calls with one touch. Now, the app has the capability to work on all versions of the iPad.
Broomfield-based Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) was awarded the International Standard on Assurance Engagements, or ISAE, 3402 Type II Certification for its data centers in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Santiago, Chile. The ISAE 3402 is a global assurance standard for reporting on financial processes and controls at service organizations.
Broomfield-based Webroot Software Inc., a provider of Internet security as a service, signed a four-year global agreement with Anittel, a managed-service provider. The agreement ensures that Webroot SecureAnywhere Business-Endpoint Protection is deployed across up to 10,000 customer endpoints.
Boulder-based Catapult PR-IR, a public-relations firm for technology companies, was retained by Boulder-based marketer BlogFrog Inc. as its PR agency of record.
Longmont-based Mountain Secure Systems, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries Inc., received Preferred Supplier Program status from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control and was selected to provide upgraded digital data recorders to Lockheed Martin for its Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod.

Broomfield-based Ball Corp. (NYSE: BLL) acquired the parent company that owns an aluminum aerosol packaging manufacturing plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed between Ball and Envases del Plata S.A. de D.V. in Mexico. The San Luis Potosi plant employs about 150 people making aluminum aerosol packaging for personal care and household products sold to customers in North America, Central America and South America. Also, Ball decided not to form a joint venture to combine its operations with those of Envases Del Plata Group’s aerosol operations in South America. Instead, Ball will continue to operate its own aerosol manufacturing plants in San Luis and Buenos Aires, Argentina, the company said.
Burglar- and fire-alarm company Safe Systems Inc. acquired two security companies in the Denver metro area. Sale terms were not disclosed between Safe Systems and the companies it bought — Colorado Telemetry Systems Inc. in Golden and Sunair Security Services Inc. in Aurora. Operations from those companies were rolled into the Safe Systems headquarters in Louisville, including monitoring and billing. Four workers from Colorado Telemetry Systems became employees of Safe Systems.
Broomfield-based Vail Resorts Inc. (NYSE: MTN) entered an agreements to purchase the Afton Alps and Mount Brighton ski areas. The total acquisition price will be $20 million in cash, according to a release from the company. Afton Alps is in Hastings, Minnesota, which is 33 miles from the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Mount Brighton is in Brighton, Michigan, 43 miles from Detroit.
Boulder-based 5.12 Solutions Consulting Group will offer a six-month executive coaching and leadership training program, Ignite Leadership 2013, starting in January. The program, to be led by author and consultant Sal Silvester, is geared toward emerging, transitioning and mid-level leaders.
