BOULDER - Automated software testing firm TestPlant Inc. plans to launch a new test in April that looks for problems in the new mobile-applications customers can use on their smartphones.

Employees of the London-based Test Plant's development office in Boulder created the automated mobile-applications test, said Jonathan Gillaspie, the company's chief development officer. Gillaspie heads the team in Boulder.

The test is named eggOn. The company bills the test as one that's easier to use than the previous eggPlant for Mobile test, which is also made by TestPlant.

The eggOn test "helps us make mobile-app testing with eggPlant even easier, setting us apart from the complex testing tools that are out there," George Mackintosh, chief executive of TestPlant, said in a press statement.

Mobile-application testing has taken off in recent years as consumers have moved to smartphones, Gillaspie said. TestPlant's office at 3000 Pearl St. in Boulder employs 10 people. Gillaspie declined to discuss revenue numbers for the privately held company.
