The deadline for entries is Friday, March 15, for the Boulder Green Playhouse Design Competition and Auction. Money raised from the competition will go to support the Growing Gardens Children's Peace Garden program, a nonprofit group in Boulder that cultivates an organic vegetable garden at 1630 Hawthorne Ave. in Boulder.
The competition and auction will be held Saturday, June 8, at the Growing Gardens Hawthorne Community Garden, where the Peace Garden program is held. A panel of three judges will vote on winners, who will be featured on various websites and publications.
"Green" criteria for the competition will focus on the materials used in playhouses. For example, one playhouse in last year's competition included a string of lights powered by solar energy. Another playhouse featured plants on its outside walls.
This year, select playhouses will be featured at the Boulder Home and Garden Fair at the Twenty Ninth Street shopping area in Boulder starting on Saturday, May 11. Other playhouses also will be set up at McGuckin Hardware and ReSource Yard in Boulder, and at FlatIron Crossing shopping center and the Butterfly Pavilion in Broomfield.
Entrants pay entry fees of $100, $300 or $1,000, depending on where they want their finished playhouses to be displayed. Details about the competition and judging criteria are online at www.greenplayhouses.org.
