BOULDER - Software developer Amadeus Consulting Services LLC announced Friday it will develop an operating-room safety system modeled after an airplane safety checklist for medical-equipment manufacturer Parallax Enterprises LLC.

Terms of the deal between Boulder-based Amadeus and Pikesville, Maryland-based Parallax were not disclosed. Amadeus recently bought a 5 percent stake in Parallax.

Amadeus is building the Consolidated Healthcare and Resource Management system across a HIPAA-compliant cloud system, an operating room hardware suite and an enterprise software suite.

It will use interactive checklists and a medical display that shows surgeons critical information about the patient, along with a surgery checklist. The system is designed to increase patient safety and decrease medical mistakes in the operating room.

Jeffrey Woolford, chief executive of Parallax, is a licensed physician and pilot, one of only 12 pilot-qualified flight surgeons in the Air Force. After his stint with the Air Force, he enrolled in medical school at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, where he earned his doctorate in medicine.

The CHaRM system is protected by a provisional patent application filed in June 2011 and a utility patent application filed in June 2012. The system is on track to begin beta-testing in at least one hospital this summer in Baltimore.
