BOULDER - A Boulder-based startup that makes educational toys for children has signed up to receive mentorship from the Innovation Center of the Rockies.

Kodo Kids, founded by Chris Hume, will receive support from advisers of the organization that supports entrepreneurs.

The advisory board consists of David Monahan, founder at Sprig Toys; Ed Soehnel, former vice president of sales at Brainetics; Richard Lappen, partner at Red Ideas Group; Ileana Street, former vice president of operations at Galileo Learning; and Teresa Forrester, owner of Forrester Design.

"The ICR spent time learning about our needs and recruited outstanding local people to help with our company," Hume said.

Hume's line of equipment, tools and toys ranges from art tables to magnet walls, all designed to educate children and foster intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. It also produces equipment for preschools and museums. The company has approximately 80 products for sale on its website at kodokids.com.

The Boulder-based Innovation Center of the Rockies, formerly the Boulder Innovation Center, got its start in 2005 working with early stage natural and organic companies, and has since branched out to cover a variety of industry sectors which it sees as holding the most promise for the community, global economies and the environment.
