Boulder Brands leases spot on Pearl Street
Terms of the deal for the space at 1600 Pearl St., which is owned by Unico Properties LLC, were not released.
The building is undergoing the addition of a third level, which is the space Boulder Brands (NYSE: BDBD) will occupy. That addition is expected to be finished in the fall, at which time Boulder Brands will make the move.
Internet cloud security provider Symplified Inc., and cloud storage provider SolidFire Inc., currently occupy the second floor while the first floor and basement of the building are empty.
Boulder Brands, which reported revenue of $49.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2012, includes several brands in the gluten-free and natural foods categories, including Udi's, Glutino and Earth Balance products. About 60 employees will move into the new Boulder Brands space, which includes about 10 from its Udi's location in Denver.
Boulder Brands changed its name from Smart Balance Inc., in January, and the move to Boulder is part of the company's efforts to align itself with the burgeoning natural foods business the town is known for."
Chris Boston of Gibbons-White Inc. in Boulder represented Boulder Brands in the lease, and Unico property manager David Workman represented the owners.
REALTOR TARGETS VALLEY: A California-based real estate brokerage is opening an office in Colorado and targeting the residential market in the Boulder Valley.
Carrington Real Estate Services LLC, based in Santa Ana, California, will open an office at 2009 W. Littleton Blvd., No. 200, in Littleton, from which it plans to cover the cities of Boulder, Longmont, Erie, Denver, Lakewood, Littleton and Fort Lupton.
The office will be headed by Jetta Yacovetta, a 25-year veteran of the real estate industry. Yacovetta began her career as a general contractor building custom and semi-custom homes in upstate New York, eventually relocating to Colorado in 1994 to work as a Realtor in commercial leasing and residential sales.
Carrington provides consumers direct access to related services such as mortgage lending and title insurance through its affiliation with Carrington Holding Co. LLC.
NURSERY EXPANDING: The Boulder Day Nursery is fundraising in hopes that construction can begin next summer on a 10,000 to 12,000-square-foot Lafayette Community School.
Boulder Day Nursery, an early education and daycare center at 1518 Spruce Street in Boulder, needs to raise about $1.5 million to build its new school in Lafayette, executive director Steve Callander said.
Boulder Day Nursery will keep its location in Boulder. The site of the planned community school is at the Westgate office park at 1135 Cimarron Drive in Lafayette, about a quarter mile west of Centaurus High School along South Boulder Road. Lafayette Community School will serve infants through pre-kindergarten age children year-round.
The new building will be Boulder Day Nursery's second phase at Westgate.
Last summer, Boulder Day Nursery paid $1 million to purchase a building and five empty lots at Westgate that had gone into foreclosure. The building purchased was partially finished at the time, and Boulder Day Nursery will have it completed for use by Boulder County Head Start preschool for 3, 4 and 5-year-olds by July 1. Classes there begin in August.
Around the time of the purchase last summer, Head Start had had lost its space at Sanchez Elementary in east county and moved into temporary space owned by the county. Head Start will lease from Boulder Day Nursery.
Boulder Day Nursery's purchase last summer included six of the nine lots at Westgate counting the building Head Start will occupy. The other three lots already had buildings on them.
Callander said Boulder Day Nursery has set one of the lots it purchased aside for either future development by the Lafayette Community School or to sell for use as an office building.
HILLCREST EXPANDS: Hillcrest Glass LLC is expanding into a second location after experiencing rapid growth in the commercial side of its business over the past couple of years.
The Longmont-based company, which specializes in commercial and residential glass installations, has leased about 9,000 square feet of warehouse space at 3762 Puritan Way in Frederick.
The new space will house the commercial side of Hillcrest's business, while the residential portion will remain at the original location at 504 Fourth Ave. in Longmont.
Lisa Sklar, who purchased the 44-year-old company with her husband, Michael, in 2007, said the expansion came mainly because the commercial side of the business had outgrown Hillcrest's current home, which is about 7,000 square feet. Hillcrest's annual revenue reached $2.5 million in 2012, a 67 percent increase during a two-year period. That figure landed the company No. 21 on the Boulder County Business Report's Mercury 100 list of the fastest-growing private companies in Boulder and Broomfield counties with revenue of more than $2 million.
Some of the buildings where Hillcrest has done glasswork recently include Fate Brewing Co. in Boulder and the Microsoft/Bing offices in downtown Boulder, for which Hillcrest recently won a Colorado Glazing Contractors Association award.
Hillcrest, which opened in 1969, has 23 employees. Sklar said the expansion doesn't include adding any jobs at this time.
The location in Frederick, Sklar said, gives Hillcrest easier access to Interstate 25.
SPA, EAST/WEST ON MOVE: The owners of Salt Spa Inc. and East/West Integrated Medicine Inc. in Boulder have purchased a building at 333 South Boulder Road in Louisville with plans to move the two businesses there.
Allen Tawa and Dr. Nita Desai purchased the 6,540-square-foot building from RA Putnam and Associates for $625,000. Two of the four office suites in the building currently are the longtime homes to an Edward Jones financial advisers branch office and McCarty Dental Group. The other two spaces are empty.
Salt Spa, co-owned by Desai and Tawa, and Desai's East/West are both at 2885 Aurora Ave. in Boulder, and the location in Louisville gives them more space. Tawa said he expects the Louisville opening to occur by Aug. 1.
The two businesses will occupy two of the four office spaces in the building, accounting for 3,520 square feet of the space. The Edward Jones branch and McCarty Dental Group recently renewed five-year leases on their respective locations.
Wade Arnold and B. Scot Smith of The Colorado Group represented the seller in the deal, and Tom Hill of Wright Kingdom Real Estate represented the buyer.
