Area unemployment rates holding steady

Both counties' unemployment rates have declined eight-tenths of a percentage point compared with the same month a year ago.
The jobless rate in Boulder County in April and May was 5.1 percent, while in Broomfield County it was 6.4 percent for two consecutive months. In May 2012, the respective rates were 5.9 and 7.2.
Boulder County has 173,343 people employed and 9,233 looking for work. Broomfield as 30,027 people employed, with 2,051 seeking employment, according to the report.
Colorado's unemployment rate also remained steady at 6.8 percent. The national unemployment rate for May was 7.6 percent, down from 8.2 percent a year ago.
Statewide, Kiowa County in southeastern Colorado had the lowest jobless rate at 3.4 percent, while San Miguel County in southwestern Colorado had the highest rate at 12.2 percent.
