The promotional event - named for the word "bargains" spelled backwards - is held annually to sell Sports Authority's previous year's ski and snowboard equipment to customers at discounts. Sports Authority's Boulder store is at 3320 28th St. The sports retailer is based in Englewood.
Customers may receive a variety of promotions designed to draw them into the stores, including discounts on purchases and chances to win a shopping spree. The event is expected to bring an additional 20,000 customers to six Sports Authority stores in Colorado and one in Salt Lake City, the company said in a press statement.
Sports Authority and predecessors Gart Bros. and Gart Sports have run the Sniagrab event for 58 years. The company has more than 475 stores in 43 states. In addition, Sports Authority operates 10 S.A. Elite locations, including one at the Twenty Ninth Street retail district in Boulder, where it sells apparel and footwear.
Other sports retail stores in Colorado hold similar events to herald the coming ski season.
The Ski Rex event, for example, is put on by Colorado Ski and Golf stores, and Boulder Ski Deals in Boulder, starting Labor Day weekend. Colorado Ski and Golf stores are owned by Specialty Sports Venture, the retail division of Vail Resorts Inc., (NYSE: MTN) based in Broomfield. Specialty Sports Venture operates 170 stores in the western United States.
