Brewing company in Erie 'ready to pour'

Nate Cervantes and his father, Tim Suttman, are opening the craft brewery and tap room Oct. 5 at 285 Cheesman St., in downtown Erie. The pair is holding a soft opening on Friday for friends and others who helped them get the business started. The grand opening for the public will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday.
Cervantes said Thursday that he and Suttman had done all of the build-out of the 1,000-square-foot space themselves, putting about $45,000 into startup costs. They've been in the building for nearly a year getting it ready in their free time while both worked full time for Western States Fire Protection Co.
Cervantes said Industrial Revolution originally had been working on landing a larger space in Lafayette. But when financing became tough to come by, the group had to back out and look for a smaller space. Odd13 Brewing ended up opening over the summer in the Lafayette location.
"We're elated," Cervantes said. "It's a great feeling to know we finally made it, and we've got beer, and we're ready to pour."
Industrial Revolution will operate with a three-barrel system initially. It will start with five beers on tap: an orange coriander ale, an American amber ale, a chamomile-infused wheat and rice beer, a vanilla porter and an English brown ale.
The tap room has a capacity of 30. Industrial Revolution's deck also has seating for 16. Cervantes said nearby Miners Tavern will supply a food menu and shuttle food to the tap room.
Industrial Revolution might be the first craft brewery in Erie, but it's merely getting the scene started. Frederick-based Echo Brewing Co. is renovating an old fire station just a couple of blocks from Industrial Revolution with plans of opening a second location this year.
"I think it will be a nice variety and people will want to come to downtown Erie to see what's going on," Cervantes said. "We've created a huge draw. We've had ... a ton of support from the community."
