Pellman's named Motor Age's Top Shop
Last Updated: 15:36 October 16, 2013
The group publishes Motor Age, a trade magazine distributed nationwide for the automotive aftermarket and collision repair industry.
Pellman's was selected by a panel of judges, which based votes on information provided by shops that entered the annual contest.
The shop at 2560 49th St. is owned by Brad and Lisa Pellman. It has eight bays and occupies 9,240 square feet.
The Pellmans opened the shop in April 1995. Brad Pellman is an Automotive Service Excellence master tech and has earned various certifications including the Accredited Automotive Manager designation.
Lisa Pellman also holds the AAM designation and has a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Colorado.
Pellman's Automotive Service is affiliated with AAA, the Automotive Service Association, ASE (Blue Seal Shop since 2006) and the Better Business Bureau.
According to Tschanen Brandyberry, Motor Age's managing editor, what set the shop apart has been the hard work over the years so "Brad can now work on the business, not in the business."
Hiring companies and consultants to better its marketing, website and social media efforts has helped improve the business' bottom line. Pellman's Automotive Service is active in training at local and national levels, in the industry and the community, especially after the recent Colorado floods.
"Pellman's Automotive Service has been in the top 10 for the last three years, and this year showed changes to their business approach that pushed the shop to the top," Brandyberry said.
"Both Brad and Lisa have taken their commitment to their shop to another level, too, becoming very involved in their TechNet group, ASE, CCPN and ASA-Colorado," Brandyberry said.
"Brad is the ASA-Colorado Mechanical Division president, giving back to shops around the state, trying to improve the industry. That aftermarket involvement set the shop apart from some others."
Pellman's, as the grand prize winner, will be featured on the cover of the December issue of Motor Age. The other nine "first-place" shops that made the 2013 Top Shops list and that will be featured in the December issue, in alphabetical order, include Brad's Service Center, Chicopee, Massachusetts; Carfix, Garner, North Carolina; CARS of America Inc., Glenview, Illinois; Certified Automotive Specialists, Glendora, California; Curt's Service, Oak Park, Michigan; George's Sierra Shell, Fontana, California; Larson's Service Inc., Peabody, Massachusetts; Rad Air Complete Car Care, Westlake, Ohio; and Sun Valley Imports, Tempe, Arizona.
The 2013 Motor Age Top Shop competition was sponsored by Ingersoll Rand, Kia Genuine Parts, Ford Motorcraft, Mitchell1 and Toyota Wholesale Parts.
