Financial terms of the agreement between the two privately-held companies have not been released. Deck Monitoring will be an independent subsidiary of Also Energy.
Also Energy's chief executive Robert Schaefer will lead the company, which now manages more than one gigawatt of photovoltaic monitoring equipment and two gigawatts of power quality equipment.
"The combined company is now the market leader among independent PV monitoring vendors in the U.S. based on 2012 new megawatt count," according to SoliChamba's consulting principal Cedric Brehaut, the author of a recent GTM Research report on PV monitoring.
Also Energy's strength is in original equipment manufacturing sales to third-party owners, and Deck Monitoring's strength is in the solar-integrator channel for direct-to-customer solar sales.
Schaefer said the new company combines complementary solutions in analytics, and will be able to offer superior support. He added that the combination broadens customer choices. Deck Energy will retain its product lines as well as its team.
"Our collective long-term mission is to strengthen both product lines, ultimately incorporating the best aspects of each product into both," said Holden Caine, Also Energy's chief technology officer.
