BOULDER - Boulder B-cycle, a bike-sharing program, will expand its services by 70 percent beginning this spring.

Expansion plans include the addition of 16 bike-share stations, 130 bikes and 24-hour accessibility. Kaiser Permanente will become Boulder B-cycle's presenting sponsor, providing funding for the long-term sustainability of the program.

By July, Boulder B-cycle will include 38 bike-share stations and 280 bikes total.

A large focus of the program's expansion is to offer B-cycle to help transit riders with the first and final mile of their trip, but increased access to bicycles for college students is also a priority, according to a release Wednesday.

"Today's announcement really serves as a re-launch of Boulder B-cycle," said James Waddell, executive director of B-cycle, in a statement. "By July 2014, our program will have more than tripled in size since our founding in 2011."

B-cycle serves as a complement to the city of Boulder's public transportation system where scheduled buses only run until midnight each day. It is estimated that 34 percent of Boulder B-cycle members use the program to connect to public transportation.

As the program transitions to 24-hour availability, it will offer members access to transportation that expands beyond the buses' operating hours.

Beginning April 1, Boulder B-cycle will offer a number of pricing options including $70 for an annual pass, $45 for a 150-day pass, $20 for a seven-day pass and $8 for a 24-hour pass. Students are able to receive passes at a reduced rate.
