LONGMONT - Regal Cinemas said Tuesday it will upgrade to plush recliner seating in the 12 theaters it will build at Village at the Peaks in Longmont.

The new theater will feature 12 floor-to-ceiling screens to show traditional and 3-D films.

"We know Longmont residents are going to love the new recliners and the theater design which is truly upscale," said Jerry Grewe, vice president of real estate for Regal Entertainment Group. "We have confidence that guests will be thrilled to experience these recliners and to kick back and relax in this new entertainment destination that we are creating."

Regal Cinemas, Whole Foods and Sam's Club are anchor tenants at Village at the Peaks. Regal's announcement comes after Whole Foods recently said it will expand its planned store from 30,000 to 40,000 square feet.

Village at the Peaks so far has signed 10 retailers-the three anchors plus Gold's Gym, Parry's Pizza, Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, Verizon Wireless and Pacific Dental. The other two signed tenants will be named when construction begins. The 10 tenants total nearly 70 percent of the leasable space.

NewMark Merrill Mountain States purchased the Twin Peaks Mall property in early 2012 and has been working with the city of Longmont in a public-private partnership to redevelop the area to an open-air mall that is expected to open in 2015.
