BOULDER – Broadband infrastructure provider Zayo Group LLC announced on Wednesday that it will open a 24,000-square-foot downtown Denver office in August.

The new office will accommodate up to 125 employees, though the space won’t be completely filled immediately, said Scott Reardon, treasurer and head of corporate development for Boulder-based Zayo.

Reardon said the new site will be filled with a combination of transfers from Colorado’s other offices as well as new hires as the company continues its rapid growth.

Zayo employs 1,500 people worldwide, including 400 in Colorado. Reardon said the company has about 50 employees in Greenwood Village, about 175 in Louisville and the balance of its Colorado force at its Twenty Ninth Street headquarters in Boulder, which opened in late 2012. He said it’s possible that there could be a consolidation of Colorado sites at some point. But nothing is imminent or has been decided on that front.

“We’ve got the headquarters in Boulder, and Denver, being the other main business hub on the Front Range, we wanted to open an office in downtown to take advantage of that as well,” Reardon said.

The Denver office will be at 1621 18th St. in the 18th Street Atrium building near Union Station, and provides a convenience factor for some of Zayo’s current employees, as well as a stronger presence in a major hub of the telecommunications industry.

“Given the industry’s deep roots in Denver, establishing a larger local presence was an important strategic goal for Zayo,” chairman and chief executive Dan Caruso said in a statement. “We look forward to engraining ourselves into Denver’s vibrant startup and entrepreneurial scene.”
