Sierra Nevada Corp., which has its Space Systems division based in Louisville, announced Thursday that it has completed the acquisition of Madison, Wisconsin-based Orbital Technologies Corp., or ORBITEC, as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and SNC officials could not be reached for comment.

ORBITEC will continue operations in Madison and support SNC's Space Systems.

The two companies have worked together for more than three years, with ORBITEC leading the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems and Thermal Control Systems for SNC. Those services provide reliable living conditions for astronauts during flight in the Dream Chaser spacecraft being developed by SNC.

"It was a natural progression for our two companies to come together after years of teaming on SNC's Dream Chaser spacecraft program," SNC's president Eren Ozmen said. "Our complementary technologies, depth in space systems leadership and steadfast commitment to developing safe human spaceflight are consistent with both our business plans for significantly growing our aerospace and commercial markets."
