RSS feeds provide a convenient way to keep track of the latest headlines and podcasts from BCBR.com, the state's best source for daily business news.
With RSS, you'll know the moment we update with news stories and other content. And you'll be able to subscribe to dozens of other targeted news and information feeds, helping make your time online more efficient, productive and relevant to specific needs.
What is an RSS feed?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." It is XML technology that delivers headlines, podcasts or other information to desktop RSS readers or certain Web browsers, including Firefox.
With RSS readers or RSS-equipped Web browsers, you can have headlines from your favorite Web sites — including BCBR.com — aggregated and fed to one source for easy access. You can also use RSS to feed headlines to your personalized My Yahoo or Google homepages.
What must I have to use RSS?
You need to download an RSS reader or an RSS-friendly Web browser.
Many RSS readers are free. Some are Web-based, and others are small, stand-alone programs that run on your desktop. A list of readers and links to download them are included below.
Many Internet browsers have RSS readers built in. These include Firefox (Mac and PC) and Safari (Mac). And the new version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, expected sometime in 2006/2007, will also read RSS feeds.
How do I collect and use RSS feeds?
You'll have to perform a couple of quick steps depending on what kind of RSS reader you've chosen.
For free RSS readers available on the Web, most setups boil down to this: Subscribe to a particular RSS feed by right-clicking on its "RSS" or "XML" logo. Select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" to copy the feed's URL. Then, paste the URL wherever your particular RSS reader requires you do so.
Instructions vary for RSS-friendly Web browsers. For Mac Safari browser users, simply click on an "RSS" or "XML" logo or link, then choose "Add to bookmarks" in the right-hand column in the browser window. Firefox users can use a similar feature called "Live Bookmarks," or you can download browser extensions such as Sage, which is an RSS reader integrated with a Web browser.

Podcasts
Podcasts are short audio programs that you can listen to on your computer or portable digital-music player. You can use special software, such as Apple's iTunes for Mac and PC, to "subscribe" to individual programs, automatically downloading new shows as they become available.
